Netherbrook Primary School

Key Stage 2

Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 make up Key Stage 2 at our school.

In Key Stage 2 we study Numeracy; Literacy which includes writing, reading, grammar, spelling and handwriting; science; topics such as history, geography, PHSE, R.E. and creative subjects such as art and technology.

History, Geography, Music, Art and DT are generally taught through topics enabling children to make links between subjects and teachers always ensure these lessons are creative and hands on.

We have the opportunity to learn French at Key Stage 2 using an ICT program and resources.

In line with the recent government changes, the curriculum will be changing from September 2014 and as a staff, we are excited about the new opportunities that this will bring to learning and teaching.

Year 4 go swimming every week during the Autumn term and most reach the expected level of being able to swim 25m unaided by the end of the session. Year 5 children have specialist music teachers who come in every week to teach them to play the violin and also cover aspects of writing and composing music. They can choose to continue this in Year 6.

We have further enrichment activities through themed weeks and after school clubs.
